The Synergy of Colour And Form Workshop with Argile x Orac

Dear Readers of A.D.O.A.I.D,

Last month Sabrina Yvonne was invited to attend a workshop based on the synergy of colour and form, which was hosted by the beautiful Fiona De Lys, an Interior Colour Specialist in collaboration with Orac x Argile.

Just to give you some background on each of these companies, which tells us a story of who they are, what they do and why they play an important role in the design world.

Orac design walls not only from an aesthetic point, but also from a social and sustainable point of view. Orac products make this possible and simple, with easy installation, versatility and ease of use. From functional skirting boards to characterful cornice mouldings: ORAC stands for complete creative freedom based on your own style and personality.

Argile is a French industrial manufacturer of high-quality decorative paint. Rooted in an industrial background, for the past 30 years, Argile has developed and specialised in premium design projects for over 15 years. Through 184 timeless and subtle shades from the Terre and Végétal collection, Argile fuses the colours of nature with the world of design, decoration, and lifestyle.

Behind the heart of Fiona De Lys work is a personal story, the influence of her English-Italian heritage, design, culture, history and a desire to put these into a body of work that celebrates emotion through colour and form. Calling this celebration an ‘aesthetic narrative’. At work, she brings a multi-disciplined and intuitive approach to understanding and reading colour, relative to light, purpose and intention, and how a colour combination can best work for you.

With the collaboration of these three, we can see how the narrative of this workshop played out, leaving us with a wealth of information and detail to implement within our own design projects.

The workshop taught us a lot about how colour can work within a space, how it changes in natural light compared to artificial light. How the darkness of a room can create a new shade of the same colour that had a lighter tint during the day. As well as it changing when applied to different forms and shapes, and in different sizes of spaces.

Sometimes, when thinking about choosing a colour for a space it can be a very daunting task. This is why we often stick to the neutrals, the whites, the beiges and the greys but if we start by taking a look around at our homes and look at the colours we are drawn to. From the things we wear, the clothes, shoes, accessories, and even artwork we will come to realise that we do appreciate colour more than we think we do and with that in mind, we can start to add a touch more personality, character and creativity within our interiors.

Check out our reel here from our highlights of the day.
