Exploring Orac’s World: A Memorable Trip to Belgium with 15 Talented Designers

In September, I had the incredible opportunity to be invited by Orac for a very special all-expenses-paid trip to Belgium. Along with 15 other designers from the UK, we were taken on a journey to discover the magic behind Orac's premium mouldings and decorative elements. The experience was nothing short of amazing, and I just had to share the details with you. So, get ready for a behind-the-scenes look at our unforgettable time in Ostend, a charming coastal city in Belgium, and my personal highlights from the trip!
A Warm Welcome in Bruges
The adventure began with a Eurostar to Lille and then a taxi to Bruges. Upon arrival, we were whisked away to the Hotel Academie, where we would be staying overnight. This charming hotel, with its elegant design and cozy atmosphere, was the perfect base for our Belgian getaway. It was one of those places that felt instantly welcoming—comfortable, stylish, and brimming with character.
After settling in we would go out for an afternoon of waffle making and beer tasing, followed by dinner.
Waffles N Beer: The Ultimate Belgian Pairing
Of course, no trip to Belgium would be complete without indulging in some waffles and beer—and we had the perfect opportunity to do just that at Waffles N Beer. We had a fun and informative session with the experts there, learning about the art of pairing craft beer with Belgian waffles.
This unique experience gave us a deeper appreciation for the country's gastronomic culture. Who knew there were so many different types of beer to complement waffles? Each pairing was thoughtfully curated, and we all left with new knowledge—and a full stomach!
Dinner at Cafedraal: A True Belgian Experience
After an afternoon of making waffles, we headed to Cafedraal, a charming restaurant tucked away in the heart of Bruges. Known for its intimate atmosphere and delicious local cuisine, this was the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day of exploration.
We enjoyed a traditional Belgian meal, and I can honestly say, it was a culinary experience I’ll never forget. From the fresh seafood (a must-try in this coastal city) and their delightful dessert, the meal was the ideal way to immerse ourselves in the local culture.
Discovering Orac’s Mastery at Their Factory
One of the highlights of the trip was undoubtedly the visit to Orac’s factory in Ostend. As a designer, there’s nothing quite like seeing how the products you use and love are made. Orac is known for its high-quality decorative mouldings, wall panels, and ceiling designs—each piece crafted with meticulous attention to detail.
We had the privilege of seeing their production process up close. From the cutting-edge technology used to create foam-based and polyurethane mouldings to the traditional craftsmanship that goes into making their bespoke designs, it was fascinating to see how Orac balances innovation with artistry.
The Orac team took us through each step of the manufacturing process, showing how they bring their designs to life—from design conception to the final product. I was especially impressed by their sustainability initiatives, using eco-friendly materials and processes that align with the growing demand for responsible manufacturing. It’s always inspiring to see a company so committed to both quality and environmental responsibility.
A Memorable Experience: Part 1 and Part 2 Reels
While I could go on and on about how amazing the trip was, I truly believe the reels I’ve created—Part 1 and Part 2—capture the essence of the experience far better than words alone can. From the factory tour to the dinner with fellow designers, to the memorable session at Waffles N Beer, I made sure to capture each moment to share with all of you.
